Alternatives

There are many good programs out there, but if you want something offering more for free:

  • Paint.NET is free image and photo editing software. It features an intuitive and innovative user interface with support for layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. An active and growing online community provides friendly help, tutorials, and plug-ins. Get from: http://www.getpaint.net/ (link is external) Paint.NET also depends on Microsoft’s .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, which is automatically installed if it isn’t already on the system.
  • Gimp This is probably the best free, open source image editor around. It has a rather unusual user interface, but once you get used to it, you can do quite a lot. Get it from http://www.gimp.org/downloads/ (link is external). Download the windows installer unless you have Linux.
