A while ago, Google announced it was going to provide wireless internet services in Africa in an effort increase access to affordable fast internet. On Thursday 3 December, this was realized at least in Uganda by the Minister for ICT, John  Nasasira officiating at the launch of the Google initiative.

According to BBC World service radio today, a day’s unlimited use for the end user should cost at most 30 US dollar cents, which I think  makes a big difference. The service is available to Internet Service Providers & mobile operators interested in providing affordable products to the end users, though they will decide what to charge and is now available in over 130 different locations or hotspots.

According to the CIA’s World Factbook, Uganda has about 6 million internet users, government statistics at 8.5m.
